Marcos Vener is an 83 year-old farmer in the Philippines and father of eleven. Typhoon Haiyan's severe winds completely destroyed his home and the home of one of his sons, along with all their crops.
They lost everything and now must rebuild from scratch.
Marcos recently arrived at a relief distribution center supported by CWS. While waiting in line for his food package, he told about his experiences during the storm and how he is temporarily living with another of his children.
“I am very thankful for the aid I received today,” said Marcos. “I can live on it for a month”.
Marcos was lucky enough to save some seeds that will help him in the long recovery process as we works to restart his farm.
CWS-supported efforts are providing assistance to Marcos, while also creating sustainable solutions to help children, families and communities rebuild their lives in the Philippines, Haiti and other disaster-stricken locations.
Whether in response to the next catastrophic disaster or providing food security, sustainable water programs, care for the displaced or services for children, CWS continues to fight hunger and poverty around the world.
