Peer Scholarships: Sponsored by CMHS

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) is looking to provide financial support to consumers of mental health services. In order to apply for this scholarship you must be a mental health consumer and a United States citizen.  Applying for the scholarship does not guarantee that you will be awarded the scholarship. All required fields must be completed in order to be considered. SAMHSA reserves the right to decline incomplete applications and the right to cancel scholarships at anytime.

We regret to announce that the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) is unable to provide financial support to consumers of mental health services for attendance at the DBSA 2013 National Conference: Stronger Together as a result of the 2013 sequestration.

Peer + Family Scholarships: Sponsored by Rebecca’s Dream

DBSA would like to thank Rebecca’s Dream for continuing their legacy of offering scholarships to family members to attend DBSA National Conferences. This year, the scholarships take on a new twist. We will be awarding 20 scholarships for a peer + a family member to jointly attend the conference. 

Included in the Scholarship

  • (2) Conference registrations (Friday through Sunday) for a peer and a family member ($350 value)
  • (1) $200 stipend check to help defray the cost of travel. (Check will be provided at time of registration check-in.)
  • Note both peer and family member must be in attendance at the conference.

Submissions & Awards

  • Deadline for submission was Monday, April 1, 2013
  • Notification of awards were made Monday, April 22, 2013
  • Submissions open to all members of the public (I.E. Neither peer or family member need be a member of a DBSA chapter or support group)

DBSA is please to offer scholarships to a number of volunteers for support provided in assisting to market the conference in their community and/or for providing support on-site during the conference.

Included in the Scholarship

  • (1) Conference registration (Friday through Sunday) for a peer or family member ($175 value)

Submissions & Awards

  • Deadline for submission was Monday, March 4, 2013
  • Notification of awards were made Monday, March 25, 2013

Volunteer Positions Available

Each volunteer will be required to commit to two volunteer timeslots or activities. These activities might include, but are not limited to:

  • Assisting DBSA promote the conference (e.g. distribution of posters, flyers, or calls to local mental health organizations/facilities). Note the majority of these volunteer opportunities are within the state of Florida. However, please submit if you feel you can provide unique marketing support to other areas as well as this is a national conference.
  • Lead DBSA Support Group(s) on Friday, Saturday, and/or Sunday evenings
  • Provide peer support in the conference Hospitality Suite during select sessions on Sunday, June 16, 2013
  • Greeters and or shuttle-bus assistants to help people find their way to the conference sessions on Saturday and Sunday
  • Ticket collectors for lunches, special events, or comedy performance
  • Other. We are looking for a volunteer to play music during part of the conference lunch on Sunday, a volunteer to lead a low-impact exercise session on Sunday morning, and are always appreciative of individuals that are willing to lend their photographic or video recording expertise and equipment to record sessions or particular activities. In a nut shell, if you have some creative talents that you feel might add to the conference, we encourage you to submit your idea with your application.
