Chapter Relations Coordinator  

Scope of Role
The DBSA Chapter Relations Coordinator is an integral member of the Chapter Relations Team. This position serves as the first line of contact for our network of nearly 300 volunteer-led chapters and state organizations around the world. DBSA chapters and state organizations provide peer-led support groups, educational resources, advocacy work, and community outreach to help individuals living with depression and bipolar disorder in their community. The DBSA Chapter Relations Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the administrative and first-line communication aspects of the Chapter Relations Department.

The DBSA Chapter Relations Coordinator also manages administrative functions of the Balanced Mind Parent Network, online support community for parents of children living with a mood disorder, and the Helpline, an information and resource line for individuals affected by mood disorders.

Duties and Responsibilities

Chapter and State Organization Re-affiliation

  • Process annual chapter and state organization re-affiliation to completion
  • Track progress and follow-up to achieve high rate of re-affiliation
  • Create and maintain re-affiliation documents
  • Proactively and reactively respond to telephone and electronic affiliation renewal inquiries
  • Responsible for completion of all state incorporation filings
  • Responsible for filing 990 postcards on behalf of eligible chapters
  • Create status reports as requested

Chapter and State Organization Communication

  • Prep and mail bi-monthly chapter-related mailings 
  • Supply resource materials to chapter and state organization leaders as requested
  • Serve as essential point of contact (phone, email, and mail) for all volunteer chapter and state organization leaders and participants, providing a response within one business day
  • Coordinate and send emails for Chapter and New Leader Welcome Programs
  • Manage all aspects of the Chapter and State Leaders Facebook Group
  • Write a chapter leader article for Leadership Link quarterly
  • Provide regular one-on-one contact with chapter leaders in coordination with other Chapter Relations staff
  • Administer chapter and state organization awards, grants and trainings
  • Manage registration and scholarships, arrange travel for speakers, and process evaluations for Chapter Leadership Forum and other programming as assigned

Chapter and Program Administrative Support


  • Maintain chapter directory database and central chapter files, continually update chapter records using Raisers Edge, Excel and web-based software. Communicate changes to staff on a timely basis
  • Maintain archived files and records, scan select documents, and perform regular audits for completeness
  • Track chapter statistics in organization-wide spreadsheet and tabulate surveys as needed
  • Track monthly departmental goals and provide other administrative support to Chapter Relations Department staff as assigned
  • Manage content on Chapter Management, auditing content and making updates as needed
  • Write monthly report on Chapter activities
  • Maintain resource supply room inventory
  • Carry out other such duties and responsibilities as assigned

Balanced Mind Parent Network (BMPN)

  • Assist with administrative aspects of volunteer recruitment
  • Manage and distribute training emails
  • Create a monthly BMPN report
  • Track BMPN statistics in organization-wide spreadsheet and tabulate surveys as needed
  • Manage automated system emails
  • Manage inquiries sent to program specific email addresses, including, but not limited to requests for support with signing up, canceling accounts, payment issues, etc.
  • Triage technical issues, ensuring resolution
  • Write monthly parent corner article
  • Manage listing of web resources


  • Internal: Is a member of the Chapter Relations team, interacts daily with all DBSA team members.
  • External: Interacts daily with current and potential volunteer chapter and state organization leaders and participants, BMPN participants, and prospective volunteers.


  • Commitment to supporting individuals living with a mental health condition; prior experience preferred
  • Excellent customer service/volunteer management skills, patience in dealing with volunteer chapter and state organization leaders’ many phone calls and emails
  • Excellent computer skills including use of Word, Excel and other Office Suite programs, Internet and e-mail; experience managing databases (experience with Raisers Edge a plus)
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to pick up on systems and duties with minimal training

This is a full-time position with benefits including health, dental, vision, disability, 401K and life insurance. Salary range is mid 30s, depending on qualifications. Position will primarily work standard hours of 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., flexible start/end times possible.

Providence St. Joseph Health & Services Peer Community Worker Job

Scope of Role
Drawing on his/her lived recovery experience, the Peer Community Worker will provide services to support patient use of wellness tools to older adults diagnosed with depression and receiving treatment through Providence St. Joseph Health & Services, Southern California at its Mission Hills Clinic. Services will be provided as part of a multi-year project to implement peer support services in collaborative care and measure the effects of those services on treatment outcomes. The Peer Community Worker will primarily deliver services in patient homes and other community settings, and via phone, with some administrative hours spent at the Mission Hills clinic. This is a time-limited (2+ years) grant-funded consultant position, up to 30 hours/week contracted through DBSA.


  • Educate patients on project-associated wellness tools and the benefits of their use, using the Peer Specialist Consultant’s lived experience as appropriate
  • Provide ongoing support to patients in using wellness tool(s) of their choice and maintaining participation in prescribed treatment
  • Enter notes and data into patient records and funder registry
  • Participate in regular supervisory and team meetings and other meetings associated with funded project administration
  • Submit regular invoices to DBSA documenting consultant hours worked during the designated period and according to instructions provided by DBSA

Candidates must meet the following qualifications to be considered for this position:

  • Has achieved a long term, stable recovery from a mental health condition and can articulate their experiences and process related to achieving and maintaining that recovery
  • Positively demonstrates health and wellness in a manner that embraces the guiding principles of recovery
  • Knowledge of community-based organizations and resources
  • Holds a certificate of completion from a recognized peer specialist training program
  • Able to document a minimum of two years’ experience in providing peer support services (employed or volunteer) within the last 5 years
  • Experienced in use of phone and computer technology
  • Ability to work independently in a non-traditional setting
  • Valid driver’s license, auto insurance, and regular access to a vehicle
  • Spanish language fluency preferred

Development Manager

Scope of Role
The Development Manager in coordination with the VP Development, plans and executes DBSA’s annual program of philanthropy with partners from the healthcare industry. The Development Manager will need excellent organizational skills, writing ability, and communication aptitude to work with high demand constituencies. This position works closely with Management Team, is a member of the Development team, and reports to the VP Development. Success will be measured using metrics such as number of: 1) LOIs and proposals submitted, 2) proposal assists made, 3) reports submitted on time, 4) revenue secured, and 5) prospect visits coordinated.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement all development activities concerning assigned prospects—i.e., cultivation and solicitation efforts, preparation of proposals, arranging for visits with prospective donors, etc.
  • Oversee sponsorship program with partners from the healthcare industry to meet or exceed an annual revenue target of $1 Million from a current portfolio of nine corporate prospects with goal of adding additional partners.
  • Create and maintain timeline of submission windows for institutional investors to ensure maximum opportunity for acceptance. Work with Finance to ensure timely and complete release of restricted funds.
  • Prepare documents such as letters of inquiry, grant requests, budgets, program work plans, and partnerships; in consultation with other departments to ensure that the proposals align with the mission of DBSA.
  • Monitor and evaluate progress toward goals, provide statistical reports, on an ongoing basis and as requested, and suggest/request appropriate research for each partnership.
  • As a representative of DBSA, travel to meet prospects for the purpose of effective and efficient partner cultivation, solicitation and stewardship; on a regular basis up to 20% of the time.


  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, advanced degree preferred
  • Minimum of three years of successful fundraising experience or similar, specifically working with corporate clients. Knowledge of pharmaceutical industry preferred.

  • Familiarity with donor tracking software such as Raiser’s Edge

Google Analytics Intern/Volunteer

Scope of Role
Are you passionate about Google Analytics and mental health? Do you love digging through conversion rates and tags? If so, then help us optimize our website with Google Analytics. The Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance (DBSA) is looking for an Intern/Volunteer to drive website intelligence and improve our online presence. The intern will be expected to assist in monitoring website performance, trends, and campaigns, generate reports, and update pages for site optimization.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Monitor website performance, trends, and campaigns using Google Analytics
  • Assist in web metrics reporting by creating and generating reports
  • Support website optimization
  • Posting page updates, including meta keyword tags, header tags, and alt tags
  • Support Site Map creation 


  • 1-5 years’ experience using, optimizing, and reporting with Google Analytics
  • Ability to analyze traffic and find opportunities and insights 
  • Clear understanding of words, phrases, and industry metrics which highlight our unique value proposition, and set us apart from the competition
  • SEO experience a plus
  • Previous experience with Google AdWords a plus
  • Excellent writing and communication skills

Chapters and Program Intern

Scope of Role
The Chapter and Program Intern is an integral part of the Peer Engagement and Policy team and reports to Nareth Phin, Chapter Relations Manager.

The Chapters and Program Intern works full-time (37.5) hours per week during the summer months. The position is unpaid.

Duties & Responsibilities


Participant Survey Support  

  • Assist with the paper mailing preparation
  • Assist with chapter follow up, including phone reminders and explanation of directions
  • Enter manual responses, as needed
  • Pull and format chapter reports, based on provided template
  • Assist with analysis and reporting of overall and segmented data
  • Provide weekly check-in report as to the number of individual participants, including chapters represented

Admin and Outreach 

  • Assist with marketing outreach and administrative support of Chapter Regional Meetings
  • Fulfill requests for educational pamphlets
  • Assist with administrative duties as assigned


Program Development

  • The following duties may be assigned pending program availiability:
  • Conduct research and outreach related to marketing and promotion of any assigned programs, including correspondence via phone, email, fax, or physical mail
  • Assist with the development, implementation, and editing of webinars, podcasts, and written guides
