Session Descriptions
Session 1: Take More Meaning from Leadership
Are all the hours that I am volunteering making a difference? Do I have to be in charge to make a difference? How do I lead by example? Angie Day, DBSA’s Chapter and Volunteer Services Director, led a Facebook live presentation about these common leadership questions. This talk included formal and informal ways to be a leader and why those roles matter. Participants had many opportunities to participate in a discussion via Facebook.
Session 2: Inclusion, Diversity, and Language
Examining and extending our language gives us a chance to broaden our definition of the word we.

In this session we discussed how chapters can use language to empower individuals while respecting and celebrating our differences.
Session 3: Many Hands Make Light Work: The Benefits of Shared Leadership
This was an interactive presentation to identify the benefits of and the obstacles to creating a culture of shared leadership. We discussed strategies to encourage the broad distribution of responsibilities such as defining a path to leadership, rotating responsibilities, and having written policies and standard operating procedures (SOP).
Session 4: Build a Sustainable Volunteer Program
Experienced volunteer managers talked about the best practices to building a sustainable volunteer program and lessons learned from their chapter or state organization.
Session 5: Celebrating DBSA’s Chapter Leaders
Chapter Leadership Forum closed with a celebration of DBSA’s Chapter Leaders and their impact in our community.
