5K ROUTE DETAILS

Is there a course map available?
No, but please check back for a detailed description of the route.

I'm used to doing a 5K on a road, where will I be running/walking inside a baseball stadium?
The Runyon 5K will knock your average 5K out of the park! You'll run or walk through Yankee Stadium's concourses and ramps, climb stairs between levels, and enjoy special access to your own victory laps around the warning track that circles the field.

What is the warning track?
The warning track is the dirt track along the perimeter of the field – it goes behind home plate, past the dugouts, and into the outfield parallel to the baselines and foul lines. If an outfielder runs onto the dirt, he knows he has reached the warning track and is therefore running out of room in which to catch a fly ball.

Does this mean I'll be on the field at Yankee Stadium?
Not quite - but very close! Access is restricted to the warning track, but the field-level views of the Stadium are spectacular, and the experience is exhilarating.

How many stairs will I have to climb between levels?
A few more than you climb to your 6th floor walk-up apartment. While you'll never have to climb more than 103 steps at a time, there are a total of 181 steps to climb up, in addition to the stairs you will walk down (again, slowly and carefully, please).

How long will the Runyon 5K take?
This depends on each participant's fitness level and speed. Competitive runners may finish in 18 minutes, while the average runner may take 30 minutes to finish. Walkers should complete the route in about an hour.

Is this a timed race?
Yes. A ChronoTrack B-Tag will be attached to the back of your bib number and will record your finish time. The B-Tag should remain affixed to the back of the bib. To receive an accurate time, please make sure your bib is clearly visible on the FRONT of the torso. Do not fold or wrinkle your race bib or you risk breaking the timing chip. Make sure your bib is pinned in all four corners so the timing chip stays flat. Official results will be posted within two days after the event.

Is the Runyon 5K a qualifying race?
No, this event is about having fun and raising funds! Take your time and enjoy the unique experience of running (or walking!) a 5K inside Yankee Stadium!

I might get tired and be unable to finish, what should I do?
No problem, just find a volunteer or staff member who can determine the safest way to get you off the route. Please note that your finish time will not be accurately recorded if you do not complete the whole 5K route.

HEATS AND START TIMES

Why is there a staggered start for the Runyon 5K?
The entire 5K route is inside Yankee Stadium and is narrower than a traditional road race, so participants' start times must be staggered to avoid congestion and ensure everyone's safety.

How will I know my heat and start time?
You can choose your own start time when you register, but please note that Heats 1, 2, and 3 are for runners only. All other Heats are available for runners and walkers to select on a first-come, first-served basis. To ensure everyone's safety, participants who are walking in Heat 4 or subsequent heats should position themselves in the back of the pack at the start line, while runners should head to the front. Walkers should stay to the right, allowing runners to pass on the left.

What are the available start times and how many participants are in each heat?
Heats of up to 200 participants will start every 10 minutes beginning at 9:30 am. Heat 2 will start at 9:40 am, Heat 3 will follow at 9:50 am, and so on. For safety reasons, Heats 1, 2, and 3 are for runners only. If you plan to walk the 5K or if you are on a team with runners AND walkers, please select Heat 4 at 10:00 am or any subsequent heat.

I realized after registering as an individual that I want to run or walk with friends, family members or colleagues. What should I do?
If there is an oversight in the registration process on a participant's end, we can assist you with changing your participation plans. We can create a new team for you or add you to an existing team and ensure you have the same start time as friends, family members or colleagues. Just send an email to runyon5k@damonrunyon.org. You can also update your participation plans in your Participant Center by clicking "Change Team Membership."

RACE PACKETS

Can I pick up my race packet in advance?
We hope to offer advance packet pick-up the week of July 24. Please check back.

What is included in my race packet?
Your race packet consists of your bib number and attached ChronoTrack B-Tags which will record your time. Participants can also pick up their Runyon 5K t-shirts at advance packet pick-up.

Can I pick up race packets for other participants at advance packet pick-up?
Yes. You may pick up race packets for friends, family or team members. To avoid confusion, we ask that you communicate your plans to any participants whose packets you plan to pick up. If you will be picking up packets for a group or team of 10 or more people, please notify us by emailing runyon5k@damonrunyon.org so that we can prepare them in advance.

If I can't make it to advance packet pick-up, will I be able to get my race packet on event day?
Yes. Race day packet pick-up will be available at Yankee Stadium. Participants who have not picked up in advance should enter the Great Hall upon arrival to retrieve your bib number with attached ChronoTrack B-Tags. Check-in will be located inside the Great Hall. Your Runyon 5K t-shirt will be available for pick up inside the Great Hall after you complete your run/walk.

EVENT DAY INFORMATION

What time will I need to arrive at the Stadium?
Participants should arrive 30 minutes prior to your start time. If you are picking up your race packet on event day, please allow some additional time to retrieve your bib number at check-in inside the Great Hall.

How do I get to Yankee Stadium?
Public transportation is recommended. Yankee Stadium is located at 161st Street and River Avenue in the Bronx, and is easily accessible by subway and Metro-North trains. The 4 train (East Side) and the D train (West Side) make stops at 161st Street/Yankee Stadium. Metro-North Railroad's Yankees - E. 153rd Street Station is located on the Hudson Line. For point-to-point directions and updated service advisories, please visit mta.info. Please allow additional travel time to reach the Stadium.

Will parking be available at the Stadium?
Yes. Please check back for details. For general information, please call City Parking at 718.588.7817 or visit https://cityparking.nyc/yankee-stadium/events

Where should I enter Yankee Stadium upon arrival?
Participants who have already received their bib number at advance packet pick-up should enter the appropriate queue for their Heat outside Gate 4 after any personal items have been dropped off at Bag Check. Participants who need to pick up their bib number on event day should enter the Great Hall (near Gate 4) to retrieve their bib number, then join the appropriate queue for their Heat outside Gate 4.

Is there a bag check area provided?
Bag check will be available for limited personal items on East 161st Street (near Heritage Field) across from the Stadium. Due to heightened security concerns, bag check is not permitted inside the Great Hall. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Are bags permitted in the spectator area inside the Delta SKY360° Suite?
Yes. Each guest is permitted to bring into Yankee Stadium only one MLB-compliant bag – presently defined by Major League Baseball as soft-sided and no larger than 16 inches by 16 inches by 8 inches – and only one smaller-sized soft-sided personal item (e.g., a handbag, clutch, tote or plastic grocery bag). All hard-sided bags and containers are strictly prohibited. All bags, personal items and their contents will be visually inspected before they are permitted into the Stadium. Bag-size bins will be used at entry inspection points, and bags and their contents must fit without assistance, modification or adjustment. For a complete list of prohibited items, please review the Yankee Stadium Entry and Carry-In Policy here.

Are strollers permitted along the 5K route?
No. The Runyon 5K route includes stairs between levels, making the route inaccessible to strollers. Children under the age of 5 will not be allowed on the route.

Will there be water stations along the 5K route?
Yes. There will be several water stations along the route, near the start line and at the finish line.

Will there be medical personnel?
There will be emergency medical crews on site during the event. In case of emergency, volunteers along the route can assist you, and will be able to communicate with emergency personnel.

Can my friends and family watch from the stands?
Yes. Friends and family members who would like to watch you make your way around the warning track can do so from the Delta SKY360° Suite, which is located in the nine sections of the Main Level directly behind home plate, and offers an incredible view of the field. Please note there will be a $5 suggested donation for adults to enter the spectator area. This area will also be open to participants prior to or after their run/walk. Limited concessions will be available for purchase. Participants and spectators can enter through the Suite Entrance near Gate 4 beginning at 9:00 am. No tickets are required.

Can my friends and family meet me at the finish line?
No. For security reasons, spectators are not allowed inside the Great Hall and cannot meet participants at the finish line. You can meet your friends and family members in the Delta SKY360° Suite, or at a previously arranged location outside on Babe Ruth Plaza after your run/walk.

Will I receive an event t-shirt and finisher’s medal?
Yes. Participants in the Runyon 5K will receive an event t-shirt and medal.

What happens if it rains?
The Runyon 5K will take place rain or shine, barring any extreme weather conditions that would put the safety of our participants at risk. In the event of severe weather, modifications to the route may be made to ensure everyone's safety.

Please email runyon5k@damonrunyon.org for answers to any questions not addressed on the website.  We will continue to update event information so please check back!
