To strike out cancer, the Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation will host the Runyon 5K – the only fundraising event of its kind to be held at Yankee Stadium – on Saturday, July 29, 2023.  The Foundation has a long history with the Yankees: Joe DiMaggio was a member of the Board in the 1950s and Babe Ruth and Mickey Mantle were supporters. Damon Runyon himself was a New York writer who began his career as a baseball journalist and revolutionized how the game was covered.
