Bryn Terfel, CD "Homeward Bound" - WRCJ
Homeward Bound is an inspiring, heartwarming collaboration between Bryn Terfel and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square featuring repertoire with a decidedly Americana feel while also reflecting the shared Welsh heritage of Terfel and the Choir.
Bryn Terfel, CD "Scarborough Fair" - WRCJ
Welsh bass-baritone Bryn Terfel has collected his favorite folk songs from the United Kingdom. 16 tracks include Irish, Scottish, English and Welsh classics such as "Carrickfergus," "Loch Lomand," "Blow the Wind Southerly," "Danny Boy," "My Little Welsh Home" and, of course, the title track "Scarborough Fair."
Dave Bennett, CD "Don't Be That Way" - WRCJ
On his Mack Avenue debut 'Don't Be That Way', clarinettist Dave Bennett stays within the mainstream repertoire, covering several of the most famous hit records of the 1930s (by Goodman and such contemporaneous clarinettists as Woody Herman and Artie Shaw). But Bennett reworks these songs with up-to-date twists and surprising new arrangements. The result is an album that blazes his own path while still acknowledging his predecessors, and spotlights the jazz clarinet for a new generation.
DSO Presents Rachmaninov Symphony #1, CD - WRCJ
In this new release on Naxos, Leonard Slatkin leads the Detroit Symphony Orchestra in music of Sergei Rachmaninov. The composer's Symphony No. 1 met with critical disaster at its 1897 premiere but has since taken its rightful place as one of the great Russian symphonic works of the late nineteenth century. The Isle of the Dead, Op. 29 is a vivid and powerful symphonic poem and was featured in the DSO's recent appearance at Carnegie Hall, where it was greeted with cheers and standing ovations.
