If You Don't Know, Now You'll Know!
As you might know, I am a PREVIVOR of breast cancer. In May 2023 I had a prophylactic double mastectomy and took charge of my health! Because of the availability of hereditary cancer genetic screening, I found out I was a carrier for a gene mutation called CHEK2. My mutation is associated with an increased risk of breast, thyroid and colon cancer. I am so grateful to have been able to identify this gene and take action!
Action looks different for everyone and you have options. If you do test positive for a gene mutation you will have access to resources like geneticists to help understand the mutation and the risks. You can then meet with doctors such as medical oncologists and specialists to come up with a plan that may range from enhanced surveillance, to preventative medication to surgery. KNOWLEDGE IS POWER!
Please contribute to my fundraising goal to help everyone gain access to genetic testing and spread awareness....and while you are at it...get CHEK'd yourself! Your donation will go straight to Emory and JScreen's BRCA initiative (which covers all hereditary cancers not just BRCA).
Thank you for your support!
