Please join me in supporting Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University as I participate in the Winship 5K Run/Walk on Saturday September 28, 2024!
As you may know, Winship Cancer Institute holds a special place in my heart. In 2021 I was diagnosed with Myelofibrosis, a rare blood cancer with a prognosis of 3-5 years without a transplant. I was lucky enough to have been living in Atlanta at the time of my diagnosis and was directed to Winship for treatment and care. I spent three weeks in what is known as the Towers, on the ninth floor on the Bone Marrow Transplant unit at Winship. During those three weeks I was surrounded by caring physicians, nurses, technicians and staff that were some of the kindest I have ever met. I am sure I was not thinking that about those that had the duty to wake me during the middle of the night to draw labs or administer medication, but they were doing what they do best and saving my life. I would not have made it through the chemo, the transplant, the worry and the recovery if not for my amazing group of friends and family whose photographs covered my walls and I looked to each day to keep me going. For three years now I have wanted to walk/run the Winship 5K in Atlanta that raises money for cancer research, this year I will do just that.
I would be honored if you would join me as I walk in Atlanta on September 28th to support Cancer research. I am fortunate to have received the bone marrow from an anonymous donor; I am fortunate to have the love of a wonderful group of humans that I call friends and family - my Tribe. I want to give back, to help advance research for cancer. And I want to WALK as I believed there was a very real time that I might not again.
