Personal Page for Matt, Wendi, Alison, & Shane Price
Alison just celebrated her 20th birthday, seven years after being diagnosed with Friedreich’s Ataxia. My late brother-in-law once said, “Birthdays are a good thing.” This sentiment couldn’t be more true for families suffering with FA.
Friends, it doesn’t get any easier. Each year seems to bring new challenges.
About one in 50,000 people in the United States have Friedreich's ataxia. Onset of symptoms can vary from childhood to adulthood. Childhood onset of FA is usually between the ages of 5 and 15 and tends to be associated with a more rapid progression. Late onset FA (LOFA) can occur anytime during adulthood. FARA is supporting research that will improve the quality and length of life for those diagnosed with Friedreich's ataxia and will lead to treatments that eliminate its symptoms. FARA has given us hope. The people have become our FAmily. They are patients, family members, doctors, researchers, and friends. Information and research is shared around the world.
For more information about FA, go to Curefa.org. Or, watch on Amazon or iTunes The Ataxian, a film about one man’s journey with this disease, along with highlights from others. Get a glimpse through the trailer at: https://vimeo.com/127990377.
My family has not felt very motivated this year to do fundraising. And yet, I have a hard time not participating in this fight for a cure. I am more grateful than ever for those who have stayed close to us in one way or another. My dedicated sister-in-law Jill (with hubby and friends) and dear friend David Bass have continued their fundraising efforts in Alison’s honor. We don’t thank them often enough, but it also does not go unnoticed!
Thanks to FS Series, the SuperHero Run that Rebecca Warriner so lovingly started on our behalf (and the Sam Hopper family), will resume this year. The event will be on Saturday, October 24, 2020, beginning at 8am. This event is at Run ’n Tri at 11831 Retail Drive, Wake Forest. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to FARA. Please join us for this event to walk/run a 1 mile or 5k. Or just come say hello, get a free cup of Starbucks coffee, and offer your support. I am hoping to pull together the raffle I have done in the past (if you would like to help me get prizes/gift cards, prepare the table, or sell raffle tickets, please let me know!)
If you can’t make it to the event or you want to donate directly to FARA instead, you can do so on this page. Better yet, join Team Alison!!
Thank you to everyone who has already donated! You encourage us to hang on to hope!
love and hugs, Wendi
