Support my birthday fundraiser and #teamTex2cureFA!
In October of 2013, after seeking some answers when, Tex, our oldest son, seemed to be more than just a little clumsy, we learned that he had a progressive, neuromuscular disease called Friedreich's ataxia (FA). FA is a rare disease affecting only about 50,000 people worldwide. Most kids are diagnosed between 10 and 15 and it affects balance and coordination as well as speech, vision, hearing and can cause a serious, life threatening hearth condition called cardiomyopathy, which Tex has. The Friedreich's Ataxia Research Aliance (FARA) is working hard to find a cure for Tex and others affected by this disease. Rather than sit by and wait for a cure, we choose to do whatever we can to help make progress towards that goal.
On July 22, Tex and I will ride in rideATAXIA[+] Chicago! We can't wait to see the Windy City and join local FA families, friends and cycling enthusiasts to redefine what is possible in FA research.
rideATAXIA[+] seeks to empower local communities to organize neighborhood bike rides and raise funds for FARA's mission to treat and cure FA through research. In the spirit of rideATAXIA, these grassroots rides include participants of all abilities and each ride is followed by a gathering to celebrate camaraderie. Local community events like rideATAXIA[+] are a significant part of what funds research and drive us towards the ultimate finish-treatments and a cure for FA.
Join me in supporting the urgent pace of that research. Donate. Together we will cure FA!
