Please Join Our Effort to Help Researchers Find A Cure For Scarlett and Lilah
Dear Family and Friends
This is a recent photo of myself with my precious twin granddaughters Scarlett and Lilah. They are 8 years old now. Both of them have been diagnosed with Friedreich's Ataxia or FA. Friedreich's Ataxia is a genetic, progressive, life shortening neurodegenerative movement disorder. Initial symptoms may include unsteady posture, frequent falling, and progressive difficulty in walking due to impaired ability to coordinate voluntary movements (ataxia). Unfortunately, both girls symptoms have worsened over the past year.
Last year, I traveled with over 25 family members to Chicago and participated in the rideAtaxia event to raise awareness and funds for FA research. Only 2 family members were from the Chicago area, the rest either drove, flew or took a train to support us."rideATAXIA" was founded by Kyle Bryant, a young man with FA. Kyle redefined what was possible in his life when he took up recumbent cycling. Since 2007, rideATAXIA has raised over $7 million to fund FA research progress. When I met Kyle the evening before the ride, I was overcome with emotion, hugging him and telling him how much I loved him for all his hard work to help those with FA. As if that wasn't enough, the next morning, Kyle actually rode with my 12 mile group. When we crossed the finish line and I saw Scarlett and Lilah cheering us on, I became one emotional old Papa. It was a beautiful day.
On July 21st, we will be returning to Chicago to participate in rideAtaxia/Chicago 2019. With the love and support from family and friends last year, I was able to raise $4,260 in support of my 12 mile bike ride. Add that to what my fellow "Cousins For A Cure" teammates raised, and it gave us a total of $26,045 to help find a cure for my sweet granddaughters.
Thank you so much for your prayers, loving kind words and support last year. It was such an emotional day for all of us. Please consider helping out again this year. By clicking the "Donate Now" blue box to the right, you will be taken to the donation page. The researchers are making very promising progress in finding a treatment and eventually a cure for this terrible disorder.
FARA, (Friedreich’s Ataxia Research Alliance) is a 4 star organization with a 98.23 out of 100 rating from Charity Navigator. 96.7 of all monies donated go directly to FA research.
With your continued support and prayers, I hope that in the very near future, I will be riding my bike 'with" Scarlett and Lillah rather than "for" Scarlett and Lilah.
Together we will cure FA!
Thank you for your consideration and please keep us in your prayers.
