Hey everyone I'm Madelyn Frederick and I am 20 years old.
When I was 13, I hit the genetic Jackpot and was diagnosed with a progressive, degenerative, neuromuscular disease called Friedreich's Ataxia. Say that three times fast! Some days are definitely harder than others but I have to remember that I have FA, but it doesn’t have me. It has taken me a while to accept and embrace my life now and that it doesn't happen overnight. It may hinder the way that I do things but I can still do them.
On April 6th, we’re riding to cure Friedreich’s ataxia (FA), a debilitating, life shortening neuromuscular disease. We’ll ride with local FA families, friends and cycling enthusiasts to redefine what is possible in FA research.
rideATAXIA was founded by Kyle Bryant, a young man with FA. Kyle redefined what was possible in his life when he took up recumbent cycling. He says after training for and completing his first century ride, "I can't even walk down the street, but I rode 100 miles in a day. After that the sky was the limit." Since 2007, rideATAXIA has raised over $7 million to fund FA research progress.
Join us in supporting the urgent pace of that research. Donate. Together we will cure FA!
with the help of YOU, my tribe we will cure FA!
