Our rideAtaxia Challenge 2020 will look a bit different this year. We see it as an opportunity to get as many Team Eleanor supporters as possible on their bikes pedaling to support Eleanor and 15,000 other people living with Friedreich Ataxia worldwide. Will you join us?
Everyone can participate on their own bikes, at their own pace, in their own location. July 1 through July 25 get on your bikes and log your miles on the Strava app! We are raising funds for FARA. This amazing organization is our lifeline to a wonderful community of families, scientists, researchers and advocates who are doing their best to coordinate and find a treatment to slow, reverse, stop and CureFA!
No bike? no problem! How about running, walking, swimming, skating, skateboarding, surfing, yoga, lifting... you name it! Any 10 minutes of an activity logged on Strava (join the rideAtaxia Chicago Strava Club) counts as 1 mile. The cumulative teams’ goal for rideAtaxia Chicago is to lap the distance of the Great Lakes (about 4300 miles). We’ll need your miles and minutes to reach this goal. Team Eleanor has set a goal to raise $5000 to contribute to the rideAtaxia Chicago Summer Challenge. Please join us and help us raise these much needed funds to continue the work and research to getting a treatment for Friedreich Ataxia as soon as possible. As a participant you can raise funds by reaching into your own network and community to sponsor your miles or activity.. Get creative and video your activity or take a pic and post.
Eleanor is entering 6th grade in the fall. Since her diagnosis of FA upon entering 2nd grade she has maintained her fitness by swimming, riding her Catrike and daily stretching. She is currently participating in 3 clinical studies and hopes to add clinical drug trial in the next few months. (Things are happening!!) She still loves Minecraft and has expanded her video playing to Animal Crossing and Brawhalla. Eleanor is a great big sister and has really shown love and playfulness with her younger siblings — especially during the past three month stay-at-home order. She is a voracious reader and would love to chat up anyone who’s read the Wings of Fire series, Hunger Games, or Keeper of the Lost Cities series. Eleanor has found a way to continue her favorite hobby of painting by utilizing a digital pen and drawing on the iPad. She is a special kid.
So, please join us at your current location and take the rideAtaxia Summer Challenge to raise funds for scientific research. We realize its a lot to ask right now, but we must move forward. Our individual contributions and efforts will be combined and together we will Cure FA! Stay tuned July 25 for a special online event. https://www.facebook.com/groups/rachicago/?source_id=156998930993501
