rooster at Farm Sanctuary

On factory farms, stockyards, and slaughterhouses across the United States, hundreds of thousands of pigs, goats, sheep, and other animals who are too sick, injured, or weak to stand or walk are slaughtered for human food every year. These afflicted animals are often left to suffer for days before they are killed—and sometimes these unhealthy individuals end up on kitchen tables and school lunch trays.

Farm Sanctuary is suing the USDA and Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue to extend protection to pigs—just as the agency now protects “downed” cattle. But we urgently need your help to keep the pressure on.

Please take action with Farm Sanctuary in speaking out against the abuse of these poor animals. Sign our petition and tell Secretary Perdue to protect ALL downed animals—with no exceptions!

STOP CRUELTY TO DOWNED FARM ANIMALS

Dear Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue

Each year, hundreds of thousands of pigs and other farm animals are pushed beyond their physical limits by intensive farming practices--becoming what the industry calls "downed." These vulnerable animals are often beaten, dragged by their ears or tails, pushed and shocked with electric prods to get them onto the kill floor so they can be slaughtered for human consumption.

No being should suffer like this.

Please direct the U.S. Department of Agriculture to extend the federal ban on the slaughter of downed cattle to include pigs, goats, sheep, and all animals who are so sick or injured that they can't even stand or walk. Thank you for taking urgent action on this serious matter.

Sincerely,
