Help Protect Downed Pigs and Other Farm Animals

In 2009, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) finally closed a loophole which had allowed downed cattle to be slaughtered for human food. While this action represents a major step in our  efforts to protect downed animals from abuse, millions of pigs, sheep, goats, and other animals still languish, unable to walk or even stand in our nation’s production facilities, stockyards and slaughterhouses. Meat from downed animals is also more likely to be contaminated and/or diseased, posing a risk to those who consume it.

You can help!

Farm Sanctuary has seen firsthand the suffering downed animals endure as they are prodded, pushed and dragged to slaughter, and we are dedicated to bringing this cruelty to an end. Please help us build on the momentum of the 2009 loophole closure. Use the form below to send a quick and easy e-mail to USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack urging him to go one step further and extend protections to other downed animals.

Please personalize the letter with your own words to strengthen its impact on your legislators.
