No Tech Hub Without Neighborhood Protections

Dear [Decision Maker],

You pledged to ensure that the Mayor's Tech Hub MUST be accompanied by protections for the affected neighborhood -- please stand firm and I will support you!

Now that the Tech Hub proposal is moving through the public approval process without the neighborhood protections this community has been calling for, and the Mayor continues to oppose such protections, we need you now more than ever to stand up for your pledge to condition any approvals for the Tech Hub on these protections also being provided.

As you know, current zoning allows and encourages high-rise luxury condos, large hotels, and big office buildings, especially for the expanding tech industry, in this area.  Affordable housing is either not incentivized, or there are big loopholes for avoiding the existing incentives. The Mayor opposes changing those zoning rules and wants to promote more of the same kind of development here.  And he wants your approval to rezone a neighboring site on 14th Street to build a giant "Tech Hub" that would accelerate this kind of overdevelopment in this area.

I greatly appreciate how clearly you have stated your belief that this area deserves these protections and that a Tech Hub MUST be accompanied by such protections to get your approval in the City Council.  This is a tremendously important and courageous stand for you to take, and I know the Mayor and others will try to dissuade you from sticking to it.  It is unfortunate that making your approval of the Tech Hub conditional upon protections for the surrounding neighborhood is the only way we will get such protections, but the Mayor has made that clear. And if the tech Hub is approved without those protections, it will result in vastly accelerated overdevelopment in the surrounding area.

Your pledge to stand with the community on this issue meant a huge amount to me.  I pledge to stand with you to fight and make sure that you have the support you need to follow through on this critical promise. We are counting on your to ensure that the Tech Hub is only approved if the affected surrounding neighborhood gets the protections and mitigations it needs and deserves, as you pledged to do.
