Tell the City Not to Spot Zone for the Hotel That Will Destroy The Merchant's House!

Dear [Decision Maker],

Do not approve the proposed spot re-zoning and other approvals for the planned hotel at 27 East 4th Street next to the Merchant's House Museum.

The proposed zoning text amendment is unnecessary and wrong, and is clearly designed to benefit a single developer and accommodate a single development. It would allow uses that do not belong in this area, and most importantly it would facilitate the development of a hotel which would have an incredibly damaging impact upon the Merchant's House Museum next door.

The Merchant's House Museum is a treasured New York City, State, and National Landmark, as well as a vital New York City cultural institution. All evidence indicates that the planned work next door would likely cause irreversible and potentially catastrophic damage to the museum and house. Even in a best case scenario, the construction would result in the closure of the Merchant's House Museum for years and cause extremely costly damage.

This would be a poor use of the zoning text amendment and special permit process. The interests of the public would not be served and the process would be manipulated to advantage a single developer. I urge you not to approve this application.
