Event Description

The GW Black Alumni Association and GW Latino Alumni Network have joined forces to host the first ever Best of Both Worlds: Celebrating Black and Latino Artists which seeks to highlight the artistic talents of the diverse GW alumni community. We’re proud to bring the talents of mixologist Ericka Brown and alumni guests, comedian Alex Espinoza and visual artist Tyree Brown to our community. Ericka will teach us how to make two signature mixed drinks and attendees will learn, laugh, and build community while honoring the ways artistic expression expresses the Black and Latino experience. This event is open to alumni from all backgrounds and identities.

Tyree BrownTyree Brown, CCAS AFA ‘18 is a Christian and a visual artist currently living in Maryland. In 2015 she was in a car accident that left her quadriplegic. Art has always been a prominent part of Tyree’s life, but everything changed after her injury took away her ability to walk or use her dominant right hand. While in rehabilitation, she learned to use her left hand to draw. Learning how to draw with a different hand was new to her and was often difficult to get the desired outcome, but she found perseverance through her faith. Through drawing portraits and having faith, she found a way to cope with her disability and improve her craft. Through her artwork, she would like others to know that life with a disability can be filled with faith, creativity and hope.
