Join music and pop culture journalist Bianca Gracie for a discussion of “Remix: Hip Hop X Fashion,” a documentary film that showcases Black visionaries in fashion who rewrote narratives on the runway and turned hip-hop style into a global phenomenon.  

About Bianca Gracie

Bianca Gracie is a music and pop culture journalist who covers pop from the 1990sand 2000s, R&B, rap, dancehall, reggae and Latinmusic. She also writes about television, film, beauty, fashion and lifestyle. Gracie has worked as an editorial assistant at Idolator, held positions at Fuse TV and most recently was associate editor at Billboard. Her writing is featured in outlets like Vulture, The Zoe Report, NPR Music, The Recording Academy, Spin and Paper. Along with her passion for music, Gracie works to provide a platform for Black and queer artists. She holds degrees in communications and journalism from Northeastern University

About the Film

This documentary showcases some of the designers and stylists whose iconic styles changed fashion in music forever. Misa Hylton was one of the first stylists to mix streetwear with fashion, creating iconic looks for musicians like Lil’ Kim, Mary J. Blige and Missy Elliott. Dapper Dan’s legendary fusion of designer fashion and street culture was popularized by clients such as Run DMC, Mike Tyson, Salt n Pepa, LL Cool J and Bobby Brown. The film also chronicles April Walker, Brooklyn-based streetwear designer, entrepreneur and founder of Walker Wear. (Farah X and Lisa Cortes, 2019, 66minutes.)
