GW Foodies: Cake Tasting with CakeLove's Warren Brown, GWSPH MPH '98, LAW JD '98

Event Description

All alumni are invited to tune in for a special interactive cake tasting with Warren Brown, GWSPH MPH '98, LAW JD '98, owner of Countertop Productions, Inc. a boutique manufacturer of innovative snacks under the brands Don’t Forget Cake, Spark Bites and CakeLove.

Participants who register will have the opportunity to purchase a special, discounted package of CakeLove cakes in a jar. Mr. Brown will walk attendees through the tasting, the story of his career journey, the inception of the product line, and a sneak peek at what's coming next. 

Each package will include three of CakeLove's top-selling flavors: Cooking Dough, Red Velvet, and Strawberry Shortcake. Each jar is an individual serving of cake and frosting layered together in a resealable jar. Packages will be shipped with cold packs to maintain freshness in transit, and shipping is included in the cost of each package purchased. To receive your cakes in time for the tasting, participants west of the Mississippi River must order by 5/7, and participants east of the Mississippi River must order by 5/13. Cakes may be ordered after these dates, but receipt of shipment before the event cannot be guaranteed. 

Warren Brown, GWSPH MPH '98, LAW JD '98, is an entrepreneur at heart with an unconventional career path that embodies what it means to pursue one’s passion.

Brown graduated from Brown University in 1993 and the George Washington University in 1998 with a Juris Doctor and Masters in Public Health. He was a federal litigator for the Department of Health and Human Services before he left the agency to open CakeLove in 2002, a tiny retail storefront specializing in layered cakes and cupcakes.

Brown’s experience transitioning from lawyer to baker generated national media attention. He has been recognized by local and national media including The Oprah Winfrey Show, The Today Show, The Washington Post, NPR, Fox News, and Inc. magazine.

Brown has authored four cookbooks to share his baking secrets: CakeLove, United Cakes of America, CakeLove in the Morning and Pie Love. He also hosted a series on TV, two seasons of Sugar Rush on the Food Network.

Currently Warren Brown pours his innovative spirit into manufacturing and marketing a variety of packaged snacks sold by retailers nationwide. He lives in Washington, DC, with his wife and two daughters.
