Event Description

Long before ‘women in rock’ became a media catchphrase, Rosetta Tharpe proved in spectacular fashion that women rocked. Ambitious, courageous, and uncompromisingly public, Sister Rosetta Tharpe became a legend who redefined the national and international music scene in the 1930s and 40s. Experience her incredible life through this rousing musical portrait, Shout, Sister, Shout!

Join your fellow GW alumni, CCAS Interim Dean Paul Wahlbeck and Professor Gayle Wald for an evening at the Seattle Rep Theatre. Enjoy food and drink during our pre-show reception and hear from Professor Wald, whose book, Shout, Sister, Shout! is the inspiration for this new theatrical work that tells “The Godmother of Rock ‘n’ Roll’s” incredible story.

Registration is $40 for alumni and guests, $32 for young alumni, and includes the following:

  • Pre-show reception at the theatre with food and drinks
  • Ticket to the show ($69 value). Seats are located in section 2, rows P, Q, and R
  • Opportunity to hear from GW leadership and Professor Gayle Wald at the pre-show reception 
  • Talkback with Professor Wald after the performance
