With unprecedented levels of attacks on the refugee program nationwide, New York Assembly Members and State Senators have the opportunity to provide critical support for refugees and asylees across the state.
HIAS serves refugees and asylum seekers in New York City and through our affiliate agency Jewish Family Services of Buffalo. Take a moment to watch our recent video, A Sign of Hope for Buffalo’s Deaf Refugees, which shines a spotlight on services to a particular group of refugees in New York.
Now, state support for refugees and asylees is more important than ever. Lower refugee admissions levels will be devastating for refugee agencies across the state of New York, potentially leading to millions of dollars in lost revenue and staff cuts. Additional funding is needed for case management, employment assistance, legal services, English language instruction, and other community resources to enable refugees and asylees to thrive.
Please contact your New York Assembly Members and State Senators to ask them to support the $4 million allocation currently in the One-House budget and urge them to advocate for additional funding for refugees and asylees.
