Community Cat Program

Welcome to the HSHV Community Cat Program information page. HSHV provides a host of programs and services that enrich the lives of feral and outdoor cats who may not suit an in-home adoption, and we also provide education on how to humanely protect or feline friends.

We know that community involvement is not only important, but absolutely necessary to help protect our community cats and we invite you to get involved with us.

Adopt a Barn Cat

This program is for cats that are already at HSHV. We do not take in feral cats for this program. Many cats that find their way into the shelter are not suited to live inside. Some may be accustomed to living outside, might be unsocial around people or are feral. They are perfectly healthy. Barn cat adoptions are free to people who have a barn or out-building.

What Do I Do with Feral Cats?

If you or someone you know is feeding feral cats in our community we would like to talk to you. The goal of any community cat management program is to maximize the quality of life for these cats, to eliminate the existing colony over time through attrition, and to elevate the worth of community cats, and cats in general, through education and awareness.
