David Chesler, MD, PhD, is Stony Brook Medicine’s director of pediatric neurosurgery and an associate professor of neurological surgery and pediatrics in the Department of Neurosurgery at the Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook University. Dr. Chesler earned his medical degree at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and completed his residency in neurosurgery at the University of Maryland Medical Center and fellowship in pediatric neurosurgery at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. He joined Stony Brook Medicine in 2014.

Dr. Chesler’s practice provides for the comprehensive care across the breadth of pediatric neurosurgical conditions. His areas of expertise include complex hydrocephalus, tumors of the brain and spinal cord, endoscopic management of craniosynostosis, the surgical treatment of epilepsy, pediatric cerebrovascular disease including Moya Moya, aneurysms and arteriovenous malformations and the use of minimally invasive techniques such as endoscopy and keyhole surgery.

Dr. Chesler’s research focuses on clinical outcomes and the epidemiology of pediatric and adult brain tumors on Long Island. He has published a number of peer reviewed scientific and clinical papers as well as reviews and book chapters on pediatric neurosurgery and neuro-oncology.

Dr. Chesler is an active member of the American Academy of Neurological Surgeons, Congress of Neurological Surgeons and the International Society of Pediatric Neurosurgery.
