Welcome to Tiffany's HA WALK Page
Join me as I WALK to End Hydrocephalus! As you may know, hydrocephalus is a life altering, life threatening condition, caused by an abnormal accumulation of cerebral spinal fluid, resulting in pressure on the brain. The most common treatment for this condition is brain surgery to implant a medical device called a shunt, which has a 50% failure rate in children within the first two years.
I have lived with the challenges of hydrocephalus for 17 years. Although I live with a medical device called a shunt, which is inserted into my brain to control the condition - a shunt is not a cure. Shunts often fail, become clogged, and subsequently need to be replaced. Shunts in children have a failure rate of 50% in the first two years after placement! Shunt insertion and replacement requires brain surgery, and often, multiple brain surgeries during a patient's lifetime. This is my life every day as my shunt is about 17 years past its shelf life.
I have endured 5 surgeries because of this condition. I have Botox every 12 week, do a monthly injection, and take a couple different medications to ward off the intense headaches caused by this condition. This is unacceptable and much more needs to be done to help families living with hydrocephalus. I wake up every day wondering if today is the day that my shunt quits working. My family is on edge everyday wondering if today is the day as well.
Please donate and help me reach my goal. Your donation is greatly appreciated and will go far in helping us find a cure and improve the lives of people living with hydrocephalus.
Thank you so much!
