Welcome to Leah Emmons' Personal Page
Please consider joining me in support of
Hydrocephalus Association & TEAM OWEN!
Friends, family, and colleagues,
Please join our family as we WALK to End Hydrocephalus! As you may know, hydrocephalus is a life altering, life threatening condition, caused by an abnormal accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid, resulting in pressure on the brain. The most common treatment for this condition is brain surgery to implant a medical device called a shunt. A shunt is not a cure and, as a result, many patients endure multiple brain surgeries throughout their lifetime. Just pause for a moment and imagine life, knowing your shunt could fail at any moment and lead you back into brain surgery. Living with such life-threatening uncertainty is taxing, to say the least.
As you know, Owen was born with hydrocephalus and had a shunt installed by the God-guided hands of the miracle workers at Cincinnati's Children Hospital. The first two years of his life have not been easy - or reflective of a typical two-year old. However, Owen doesn't think twice about it and is the most loving and cheerful light - a beacon of God's love, healing, and mercy. Owen exudes peace, love, and joy - helping his parents navigate this world of uncertainty each and every day.
This is WHY I WALK and also why I need your support. Together, let's find a cure. Please support us with a donation to help Team Owen reach its goal and/or show up and support us by registering for the walk on October 6. Your support is greatly appreciated and will go far in helping find a cure and improve the lives of people living with hydrocephalus.
Thank you and God bless,
The Knapke Family
