Welcome to My WALK Fundraising Page
Why do I WALK?
For my son, Jonathan!
Jonathan was diagnosed with hydrocephalus and a brain bleed at 30 weeks gestation. When he was born, he was transferred to the NICU to be monitored while he waited for his brain surgery. At 6 days old, he had his first brain surgery, endoscopic third ventriculostomy and choroid plexus cauterization (ETV/CPC). Unfortunately, due to the severe plaque buildup, the hole that was placed, closed and fluid built up again. At one month old, Jonathan went in for his second brain surgery and had a VP shunt placed. Jonathan is now 26 months old and the VP shunt has managed to keep the fluid minimized. We continue to monitor the fluid build up with doctor appointments and MRI's to make sure the shunt is working well.
Jonathan has also been diagnosed with cortical visual impairment (CVI) and is working with therapists on his developmental milestones. He plays and works hard and we are so proud of him! Jonathan is a sweet and smiley boy who loves one-on-one interactions, making silly sounds, jibber jabbering, playing with balls, and being outside.
One day, we hope that Jonathan and anyone else living with hydrocephalus can live their life without a fear of the shunt failing. Until then, we will live each day loving on Jonathan and doing what we can to manage the hydrocephalus!
We are extremely grateful for our family, friends, medical professionals, therapists, daycare teachers and others who have been traveling on Jonathan's journey so far.
Thank you for your support in joining us, donating or spreading awareness of hydrocephalus! You are supporting Jonathan and over 1 million people in the U.S. living with hydrocephalus.
