Welcome to Betsy's WALK Fundraising Page
Mary had her most recent life-saving brain surgery on June 24, 2023. Although it was her 11th brain surgery, it never gets easier. Living with hydrocephalus is incredibly challenging. Mary is a tough cookie and she inspires me. I love her so very much.
This is the 10th year I've volunteered to organize the Seattle WALK to End Hydrocephalus.
You likely know the story but here it is again: Hydrocephalus is a life-altering, life-threatening condition caused by an abnormal accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), resulting in pressure on the brain. There is no cure and the only treatment involves highly invasive, lifesaving brain surgery. Anyone at any age can develop hydrocephalus. Mary was born with it and was diagnosed when she was 4 months old. She had her first brain surgery 2 days after her diagnosis. She’s had a total of 11 brain surgeries because of this condition, including 4 in 6 days during the Christmas break of her sophomore year of college. After 7 healthy years, she had her most recent surgery after being rushed by ambulance to the ER.
Hydrocephalus can be terrifying so I manage my fear by raising awareness and raising funds for research to find better treatments and a cure.

I can't thank you enough! Betsy
