Welcome to Josiah's page!
Josiah has his first shunt revision March 2022
What started as a fun day at the buffalo science museum, ended with him admitted to the ICU awaiting surgery the next day. Josiah simply complained of a headache, vomited twice and seemed weak. Typical symptoms of a flu or stomach bug. But after some painful tests his neurosurgeon said his shunt had fractured. Something that happens often as the tubing is plastic. Thank God Josiah did not develop a post op infection, but recovery was slow and difficult for him this time. Having a breathing tube down his throat had his airway problems start to resurface. He needed two middle of the night ambulance rides back to Childrens due to respiratory distress. We have had to go back to lung center regularly, get Josiah on asthma meds again. And it looks like we have gotten that under control. Josiah is doing well and improving his balance and coordination everyday. We pray that someday soon we can find a long term solution for Josiah and everyone else who suffers from hydrocephalus.
There is a huge need for better more stable shunts to be designed for people with hydrocephalus. A better option than repeat brain surgeries. Please join our team and help enlighten people to this great need! Thank you for helping us bring awareness and raise funds for hydrocephalus. Thank you and God bless!
LETS CHANGE THE TREATMENT PLAN FOR HYDROCEPHALUS
Most people with hydrocephalus can have an average of 100 brain surgeries in their lifetime because of shunt failures
