Please help support our daughter, Drea, as we WALK to End Hydrocephalus. Hydrocephalus is a life altering, life threatening condition, caused by an abnormal accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid, resulting in pressure on the brain. The most common treatment for this condition is brain surgery to implant a medical device called a shunt, which has a 50% failure rate in children within the first two years.
At just 6 weeks old, our daughter Drea, was diagnosed with a brain tumor. On July 23, 2019 she underwent her 1st of 7 brain surgeries to have her tumor removed. Her tumor was successfully removed but due to a complication of surgery, she now suffers from Hydrocephalus and has a shunt. Although Drea is doing amazing, hydrocephalus leaves us wondering what is in store for her future. Will she need more brain surgeries? Will she need a shunt revision?
A shunt is not a cure, as many patients endure multiple brain surgeries throughout their lifetime, some more than 100. Drea has already had 2 shunt revisions within 4 months of each other. Imagine life knowing that the next brain surgery lurks around the corner because your shunt could fail at any moment. No one should have to live like this, especially a child.
This is WHY WE WALK and also why WE need your support. Please donate and help US reach OUR goal. Your donation is greatly appreciated and will go far in helping us find a cure and improve the lives of people living with hydrocephalus.
Thank you!
