DOMinate Hydrocephalus!
Welcome to team DOMinate Hydrocephalus!
On October 14th we will walk in Washington, D.C. to help raise funding for scientific research and to further create awareness for Hydrocephalus.
Hydrocephalus is a life altering and life threatening condition, caused by an abnormal accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid, resulting in pressure on the brain. The most common treatment for this condition is brain surgery to implant a medical device called a shunt, which has a 50% failure rate in children within the first two years.
A shunt is not a cure! Many patients endure multiple brain surgeries throughout their lifetime. Imagine life knowing that the next brain surgery lurks around the corner because your shunt could fail at any moment. No one should have to live like this.
As many of you already know, our son Dominick was diagnosed with hydrocephalus at 3 months old. Thus far in his short 5 years of life, Dominick has unfortunately undergone 4 brain surgeries due to this medical condition.
We feel blessed at the moment knowing that it has been two years since Dominick has had to have a surgery, however we know at some point his VP shunt will unfortunately fail again and therefore require him to undergo yet another brain surgery. Our hope is that one day there’s a cure or even non-surgical treatment that can control his CSF.
Your donation is greatly appreciated and will go far in helping us find a cure and improve the lives of people living with hydrocephalus, like our Dominick. We appreciate all of your love and support!
