Please join our team and WALK with us to end hydrocephalus. This event is very dear to our hearts as we are walking on behalf of those who are living with hydrocephalus and the constant fear that another brain surgery is around the corner. As you may know, hydrocephalus is a life-altering, life-threatening condition, caused by an abnormal accumulation of cerebral spinal fluid (CSF), resulting in pressure on the brain. The most common treatment for this condition is brain surgery to implant a medical device called a shunt. Sadly, a shunt is not a cure, as device failures are very common and lead to multiple brain surgeries over a patient’s lifetime, in some cases 100 or more. This is unacceptable and this is WHY WE WALK.

Lukey is a complete miracle, at the age of 5 years old he has gone through more than the average adult has. He is truly my hero. He is one of the bravest, strongest fighters I know and I so proud to be his mama!

Luke was diagnosed with hydrocephalus at 4 months old. I will never forget that day. I took Luke in for what I thought was a routine follow up with his neurosurgeon ended up being. We are taking your son into operating room tomorrow morning for emergency brain surgery. On July 24th, 2018, Luke went into the operating room to get his first shunt placed. We thought everything was okay and we good to go after surgery. Little did we know on September 13, 2018, he would have to go back into the operating room to get his shunt replaced once again. We told at this time we wouldn't know what his brain damage was or if he would have any until later down the road that was caused by the increased pressure on his brain due to hydrocephalus. Fast forward 5 years we are starting to see the brain damage like cognitive communication and memory issues and non-working bladder. This why we are raising money to hopefully help find a cure, so no one has to go through this.
