TEAM HAWKINS

Hi everyone, welcome to our Team Page!

I'm Hawkins Null and I'm 11 years old. When I was just 3 months old, doctors found out I had hydrocephalus and I had to have my first brain surgery. They put in a shunt, which is kind of like a tiny straw, inside my brain to drain out extra fluid. Because of my condition, I started getting really bad headaches called migraines when I was about 2 1/2 years old. My first shunt worked for 7 years, but then it stopped, and I needed more surgery. In February 2020, I needed two more brain surgeries. I am happy to have had the same shunt since then. I love piano, drums, golf, traveling, hiking, volunteering in my community and church, and hanging out with friends and family.

Please come and walk with our team to help end hydrocephalus. This walk means a lot to us because we're doing it for people who have hydrocephalus and are always scared of needing another brain surgery. Hydrocephalus happens when there's too much fluid in the brain, which can be really dangerous. The main way to treat it is with brain surgery to put in a shunt, but the shunt isn’t a perfect fix; it can stop working and needs to be replaced. That's why some people might need many surgeries throughout their life—that's over 100 times for some! That's really not okay, and that’s why we're walking.

You can join our team in person, or even virtually, and help us out by donating. Every little bit helps a ton, and it's all for finding a cure and making things better for people living with hydrocephalus.

Thanks so much!
