Baltimore WALK to End Hydrocephalus

Jake Town

Welcome to Jake Town and our team page!

Please join Jake Town and WALK with us to End Hydrocephalus! Hydrocephalus is a life altering, life threatening condition, caused by an abnormal accumulation of cerebral spinal fluid, resulting in pressure on the brain. The most common treatment for this condition is brain surgery to implant a medical device called a shunt: a device which has a 50% failure rate in children within the first two years. Our son, Jacob, was diagnosed with hydrocephalus at a very early age and has a shunt of his own. This event is very dear to our hearts because we are walking on behalf of HIM and because we are living with the constant fear that his shunt could fail at any moment. A shunt is not a cure and consistent shunt failures lead to multiple brain surgeries over a patient’s lifetime - in some cases dozens. In fact, Jake had to miss is first walk in 2017 because he was in the hospital being treated for a shunt malfunction. In a two week period, he required three brain surgeries to ultimately resolve the problem. This is unacceptable and it is WHY WE WALK. Please join our team and donate to help us reach our goal. Your donation is greatly appreciated and will go far in helping us find a cure and improve the lives of people living with hydrocephalus.

Thank you!
