Rep. Robert Latta, R-Ohio, with the help of the Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus, an exclusive and aggressive voice for the hunting, fishing and trapping community, has introduced a bill package to protect and enhance opportunities for recreational hunting, fishing, and shooting, and for other purposes.
Titled the Sportsmen's Heritage and Recreational Enhancement (SHARE) Act of 2013 (H.R. 3197), this legislative package is considered a milestone for the sportsmen community.
This bill would allow the importation of body parts of Polar Bears killed in Canada by "sport hunters" before 2008, it would specifically exclude ammunition and fishing tackle from the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA), thus prohibiting the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) from regulating ammunition and tackle, and it would make hunting and other "recreational" wildlife killing activities a priority in federal land use decisions.
Let's make sure that this bill (H. R. 3197) does not go anywhere. Send a fax to the House Judiciary Committee, the parent committee of the Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, Homeland Security, and Investigations, to which the bill was referred in October, and let them know that you strongly oppose this bill.
