Urgent: Appeal California's Foie Gras Ruling
(Valid street address is required - P.O. Boxes cannot be used*)
California's foie gras ban was overturned last Wednesday, January 7, by U.S. District Court Judge Stephen V. Wilson in Los Angeles. He ruled that the ban, passed in 2004 and only recently in effect as of 2012, illegally encroaches on the regulatory domain of the federal government. Specifically, he cites The Poultry Products Inspection Act, a federal law that regulates the sale and distribution of the whole carcasses and body parts of suffering birds, and unfortunately, prevents states from imposing particular conditions on production.
Foie gras (French for fatty liver) is produced through extremely cruel and violent means. Metal pipes are forcefully shoved down the sensitive necks of ducks and geese several times each day in order to force-feed them until their livers are swollen to many times their natural size, causing sickness to be the "normal" state of existence for these extremely unfortunate animals.
While the decision doesn’t change the fact that foie gras cannot be produced in California, it can now be imported from other states and sold in California, previously prohibited under the 2012 ban. Luckily, the California Attorney General’s office is reviewing the decision and an appeal is possible, which is where your help is needed.
We're extremely disappointed by Judge Wilson's ruling and ask that you take action in fighting for an appeal to take foie gras off restaurant menus once again in California. There is a narrow window of opportunity to appeal, so please make your voice heard now, and ask others to do so by sharing this alert.
Sign and submit our letter below to Attorney General Harris to request an appeal in this case and ask others to do the same!

Please do this right away, as the state of California only has until February 6 to appeal Judge Wilson's decision. Plus, every day that goes by without a stay in place is a day in which the remains of abused birds are streaming through the foie gras pipeline into California.
