Take Action to Ban the Use of Elephants in Circuses & Travelling Animal Acts in Illinois

Elephants are intelligent, sensitive animals who suffer both physically and psychologically from the abuse of travelling shows and circus performances. Hundreds of hours of undercover video documents torturous training practices and the brutal disciplinary action that is inflicted on these helpless animals forced to perform for months on end, living in the most unnatural, unhealthy, and inhumane conditions.

SB 1342, a bill to ban the use of elephants in circuses and travelling animal acts, is now on Governor Rauner's desk awaiting his signature. The bill passed the Senate, and then passed the House of Representatives with a 91-14 vote. Act now to help elephants get the protection they deserve.

Illinois State Representative, Laura Fine, who sponsored the measure once introduced in the House, says the idea for this bill originally came from children in her district who were working on a school project on elephants. After learning about the abuse and suffering the elephants endure to be trained for entertainment, the children began writing legislators letters of concern.
