Protect Cats from Cruel Declawing in California!

A landmark piece of legislation is working its way through the California State Legislature which could spare countless cats from undergoing agonizing and unnecessary surgical procedures. If passed, AB 1230 would make California the first state to ban the cruel and painful declawing of cats. We need your help to ensure this bill becomes law.

The unimaginably painful procedure of declawing cats involves the surgical removal of each of the cat's toes back to the first knuckle. Tragically, this surgery is one of the most excruciating and routinely performed surgeries in all of veterinary medicine. It's also one of the most unnecessary.

The procedure is often used in an attempt to stop a cat's natural behavior, such as scratching of furniture, but almost always leads to more behavioral problems, like litter box avoidance and biting. These behaviors often lead "guardians" to dump declawed cats at shelters where they are often considered unadoptable and thus killed.

Declawed cats also face a host of health issues after declawing, including chronic pain in the paws, joint stiffness, and arthritis. This pain can also manifest itself in behavioral problems as well.

What YOU Can Do — TODAY:
