"Your animals will be safe at a sanctuary..." Paul Zhang of Palm Beach County, Florida acquired dozens, if not hundreds, of cats and other animals from rescuers and caregivers. Instead of providing sanctuary, he killed the animals. Act now to ensure this sick serial killer pays for his crimes!
When Zhang moved from New York to Florida in 2012, he left behind a trail of death in New York. He had previously been a community cat caregiver and had run a trap-neuter-return (TNR) program for cats in Brooklyn and Queens.
Zhang’s opinions on TNR began to change when he started reading anti-TNR literature from anti-cat groups and PETA. Just before he moved to Florida in 2012, he rounded up all the cats he had been caring for—cats who he supposedly loved and who depended on him—and killed them.
In one of the group of cats he rounded up to kill was a cat named Anthony, a beloved animal companion who was mistakenly caught in one of Zhang's traps. Like the other cats, Anthony, too, was killed.
The unnecessary and illegal killing of Anthony led to an article about the incident on the local New York blog website, Gothamist where Zhang was dubbed the "angel of death" for his senseless and barbaric killing of healthy animals.
In Florida, Zhang grew bolder. There, no one knew his history of killing animals in New York and he infiltrated animal rescue circles. He even sought out managed colonies of community cats to target with trapping and killing. The cat colonies he sought were managed by loving caregivers who looked after the cats and ensured they were all sterilized.
Zhang promised rescuers that he would get their animals into sanctuaries. Instead, time and time again, he lied to them, killing the animals they had entrusted to him.
Zhang did not stop at community cats. An 8-year old Chihuahua named Daisy was entrusted to Zhang to move to a sanctuary. Instead, the "Angel of Death" killed Daisy.
Zhang will soon appear in court in Palm Beach County to answer for his crimes. Help us ensure he is punished with the maximum penalty that Florida law allows in order to stop him from killing more animals.
Please call and sign our letter to State Attorney for the 15th Judicial Circuit, Dave Aronberg, to ask him to prosecute Zhang with the maximum penalties available under Florida law for acquiring animals under false pretenses and killing them. Please also ask that Zhang be banned from any future contact with animals for life.
