The lives of thousands of Nairobi's stray dogs are in jeopardy! The governor of Nairobi, Kenya's capital city, plans to slaughter and sell the city's 50,000 stray dogs to create a new controversial dog meat market. Help us stop the torture and killing of Africa's stray dogs for human consumption!
According to the Kenya Society for the Protection & Care of Animals (KSPCA), it is illegal to eat dog meat or slaughter dogs for food in the East African country of Kenya. The Kenyan government does not inspect dog meat or slaughter dogs. If Governor Mike Sonko's plan moves forward, the results will be disastrous. It will undoubtedly lead to the immense suffering of innocent dogs and may pose serious health risks for people who consume the uninspected dog meat. Let's join with the KSPCA and the Kenyan people to oppose any plans to open a dog meat market in Nairobi.
"We are in the process of identifying a market for stray dogs in Nairobi where we shall be recruiting and bringing together all the dog eating nationalities and open for them a koroga club where they'll be buying slaughtered stray dogs ready for cooking or eating," wrote Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko on his Facebook page along with this horrifying video of a dog meat market in Asia.
We simply cannot allow this to happen!
Currently, Nigeria is the only country in Africa that slaughters dogs for meat. We can't let Kenya join Nigeria in perpetuating this abhorrent killing! Sonko's plans may open the floodgates as a remedy for stray dog issues throughout the continent. We must stop Governor Sonko's heartless, deadly sentence for Nairobi's stray dogs before other countries follow suit! Please contact Kenyan officials today!
1. Please contact Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on social media to urge him to cancel his plans to start a dog meat market in Nairobi.
Say something like:
Please cancel your plans to torture and kill Nairobi's innocent street dogs. The Nairobi people and citizens worldwide oppose a new dog meat market in the city you represent.
