Stop Koala Killings for Meat in Australia!

Heartbreaking video and pictures show how koalas are being ruthlessly slaughtered during massive land-clearings that turn Australia's beautiful forests into desertified pastures for cattle grazing. 34 million native animals each year are burnt, minced alive or die of stress when their homes are cut down underneath them. Urge the Australian government to stop all animal killings by meat and dairy farmers, and to promote forward-thinking solutions that respect animals and our planet during a once-in-a-decade independent review of Australia's Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act.

Earlier this year, a local Australian resident posted a video of a newly cleared land site in Victoria. In the video, she said:

"Look at the destruction that they have done and there's koalas lying there dead ... and there are mothers killed with their little babies. Australia should be ashamed of this!"

As horrific footage of the dead, starved, and gravely injured koalas went viral across the media, observers became passionately enraged. However, nothing was mentioned about the fact that this land, like 90% of all land clearings in Australia (and many other countries), was cleared to graze animals for meat consumption.

It's also a little known fact that the U.S. is the largest importer of the flesh of Australian cattle, and that once the USDA inspects it, it's labeled as "USA beef." What this essentially means is that, in addition to funding the suffering and slaughter of millions of cows, American consumers are inadvertently funding a massive amount of Australia's wildlife massacres.

Many of us have been too afraid to change our eating habits and have tried to ignore the cruel and damaging impacts of animal agriculture. But we must act now, because we can no longer ignore the truly terrifying impact of animal-based food: permanent, irreversible damage to the environment and the wiping out of entire species.

What YOU Can Do — TODAY:

1) If we want to prevent animal cruelty, save animals and their forested homes from death and destruction, and safeguard our environment for future generations, we must make changes to our diet immediately. Please take the first step today by downloading our Veg Starter Guide which includes easy meal ideas, time-saving grocery shopping cheat sheets, eating out tips, and more: idausa.org/VegGuide

2) Fill out the form on this page to send a letter to Professor Graeme Samuel AC, Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment for the Australian government, urging him to acknowledge the environmental consequences of animal agriculture and to promote forward-thinking solutions such as investments in clean and plant-based meat production. Public comments officially close on October 31, 2020, but the earlier they are received, the better chance they have of being read and considered during this once-in-a-decade review of the EPBC Act.
