October 14, 2011 update: "Eleanor lost her battle with kidney failure this morning. I
cannot begin to express the grief we feel. We fought for and loved
Eleanor since the day I picked her up out of the horrid debris pile she was
lying in. Eleanor was dying. With the aid of Veterinary Associates in Grenada,
Mississippi we nearly brought Eleanor back to health. She began gaining weight,
thoroughly enjoyed our affection for her and fought for her life. Our
hearts are crushed. Help us continue to fight for innocent animals like Eleanor." - Doll Stanley, Director, IDA's Hope Animal Sanctuary

(Here's our original report from October 11, 2011:) In May, with an order from a Mississippi Judge, In
Defense of Animals rescued 13 horribly neglected animals. Now we are being SUED
by the person who was responsible for their suffering.
If we knew IDA would be summoned to court for rescuing
dogs and cats from a grimy, unkempt home...we would have rushed to save them anyway!
As a supporter of IDA – someone who cares deeply about
relieving the suffering of helpless animals – you would have expected we do no
less, whatever the risk.
But now, justice must be served. And
with your emergency donation to IDA’s Legal Defense Fund today, justice WILL be
served. Please use the secure form at the bottom of this page to contribute.
After confirming reports that badly emaciated dogs were lying
in front of a ramshackle home, a Mississippi judge issued an order for the IDA
Hope Animal Sanctuary Team and the Sheriff’s Department to rescue the animals. Eleanor, pictured here just after her rescue, shows you
the state these helpless creatures were in. Eyes swollen shut. Infested with
burrowing mange mites. One bony, elderly cat languished in the yard, in severe
urinary tract distress.
Several puppies died from parvovirus and one adult dog
died of pneumonia. The surviving animals are now thriving at IDA’s Hope Animal
Sanctuary in Grenada, Mississippi – thanks to you.
But now the woman responsible for these sweet, sad faces has
summoned us to court, demanding money from IDA in “an amount to punish” us and
“set an example.”
Punish US? What about justice for Eleanor and her
long-suffering friends? That’s what you can bring about.
Your donation to IDA’s Legal Defense
Fund, as generous as you’re able in light of these utterly absurd charges, will
help set the record straight once and for all. The secure form at the bottom of this page is the fastest way to donate – your
gift will be available to IDA in less than five minutes.
The court case is pending. There is evidence to gather,
legal briefs to prepare. And IDA, as you know, isn’t one to stockpile donations
for a rainy day: we use your gifts IMMEDIATELY to save animals.
We need you now, more than ever, to be sure that justice
is served ... to be sure that poor Eleanor won’t EVER have to go
back to the life she once endured!
Please rush your tax-deductible
donation to IDA’s Legal Defense Fund. Ensure that justice will be served for animals
like Eleanor, who have no one but us to speak on their behalf. Please, don’t let the courts send these poor creatures
back to the person responsible for their suffering – or award her even one thin
dime for her cruel deeds.
Make no mistake - this is a battle for the very existence
of animal welfare and rights in the Mississippi region. Any donation you make
will be used to fight this urgent, precedent-setting legal battle and to support the ongoing
lifesaving work for animals that Hope Animal Sanctuary conducts every day of
From all of us at IDA and our Hope Animal Sanctuary,
thank you for believing that every animal matters!
