Marcus Raskin Memorial Fund
In memory of our beloved Institute for Policy Studies’ cofounder Marcus Raskin, we have set up a memorial fund in his name to support future generations of public scholars at IPS.
Marc was a brilliant intellect, lifelong activist, and a kind, caring human being. He touched all of our lives, not least by creating the institution we call home—the first uncompromisingly progressive think tank of its kind. When he and Richard Barnet left the Kennedy administration in 1963 to start IPS, they were driven by an “extraordinary conceit” to speak truth to power.
The legacy that has since unfolded has been remarkable. Under Marc’s direction, IPS has played a central role in numerous progressive movements: civil rights, antiwar organizing, women’s rights, and protections for consumers and the environment.
After leaving his role as IPS Executive Director, Marc continued to attend weekly staff meetings and events up until his death. He was thrilled to see the organization continue to thrive as a multi-issue, activist think tank that works with social movements to shift public discourse, promote game-changing policies, and mentor the next generations of progressive public scholars.
In Marc’s honor, and to sustain his life’s legacy, we ask you to contribute to the “Raskin Freedoms Fund” endowment, the earnings from which have been supporting new public scholars at IPS. Help keep Marc Raskin’s vision alive by contributing to expand the Raskin Freedoms Fund today.
