"Quality of care in early detection and management of pre-eclampsia / eclampsia in health facilities in Afghanistan", a Jhpiego-led study published in BMC Pregnancy and Childbirth, shows that knowledge gaps demonstrated by skilled birth attendants in public and private health facilities underscore the need for further investments in health care provider capacity-building within quality improvement efforts. The authors recommend strengthening supply management through a Web-based logistics information system to ensure that all facilities have essential medicines and supplies.

A systematic review published in BMC Public Health reveals the facilitators and barriers for female sex workers in sub-Saharan Africa to access HIV testing and counseling services. Long waiting times, lack of privacy, potential breach of confidentiality, HIV stigma, and fear about discrimination due to intolerance and criminalization of sex work emerged as important barriers. Improving organization of HIV testing and counseling services, including flexible working hours, can potentially improve uptake of HIV testing and counseling among sex workers, according to “Determinants of access to HIV testing and counselling services among female sex workers in sub-Saharan Africa: a systematic review.”
