9/11 Living Memorial Souvenir Leaf
9/11 Souvenir Leaf
The Israeli government commissioned this stamp to commemorate the creation of the 9/11 Living Memorial in Jerusalem.
Built by JNF, as a reminder of shared loss, the memorial depicts the tragedy of 9/11 through sculpture and landscape architecture. Designed by award-winning artist Eliezer Weishoff, the 30-foot bronze sculpture is surrounded by a circular, crater-like plaza tiled in stone. It rests on a gray granite base, part of which is from the original Twin Towers. Lining the slopes of the crater are over 3,000 names of those fallen in New York, Washington, and Pennsylvania.
The memorial is the only place outside of New York that recognizes the names of the people who were killed as well as their countries of origin. It demonstrates the shared commitment of two great democracies that battle terrorism - Israel and the United States.
Leaves available for $360. Proceeds will go towards creating a park-like setting, building access roads and maintaining facilities at the site of the 9/11 Living Memorial in Jerusalem.
