Fourteen years ago, at the tender age of three, our son Luke was diagnosed with Stage IV Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma, a very aggressive pediatric cancer. Luke had tumors in his hip and behind his eye, and the cancer was spreading fast. Our family was terrified. We felt helpless. To no one's surprise, we learned that the leading experts in the world on this rare cancer — Dr. Lenny Wexler and Dr. Paul Meyers — were at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.
Under the care of these great doctors (and they are even better human beings), Luke has endured multiple surgeries, countless cycles of chemotherapy, and dozens of days of radiation treatments. But he has survived. He has persevered. And he has thrived ... all because of the world class care and research at Memorial Sloan-Kettering. But we need your help. Many kids don't survive rare cancers. And even more adults succumb to rare forms of this disease.
Why do we ride?
We ride to honor brave family and friends touched by cancer. We ride to honor and celebrate the courage shown by Luke and so many others who fight cancer. Cycle for Survival is our way of joining their fight and making a difference.
