Shelley, a beautiful bright light, was the best Mom, Wife, sister, aunt and friend. She was the "go to" person for so many with her genuine willingness to listen with an open mind and a loving heart. Shelley's sense of humor and larger than life personality was engaging and magnetic. When Shelley became ill suddenly, and was diagnosed with a rare terminal thyroid cancer we began to build Shelley's Spinners. Our band wagon, that was endorsed and championed by Shelley grew quickly. The legions of people who adored her all wanted to be on board. Shelley had always been there for the people she loved and we all wanted to be there for the person whose laugh could instantly brighten the darkest day.
Days after Shelley passed away, 88 of us traveled to San Francisco, proudly wearing our Shelley's Spinners t-shirts to join Cycle for Survival. We translated our loss and deep pain into a day of hope as we rode for "our Shelley"! We all know that Shelley loved this team effort. She watched as the numbers grew and as we raised more and more money for rare cancer research. We know she would be proud of all of us and would be leading the charge (now also in Seattle!), as we continue to grow. All of us have others we ride for as well. We have lost too many and we will continue our fight proudly. With a smile and a "Shelley" laugh in our hearts, we ARE Cycle for Survival’s Shelley's Spinners!
