Nearly two years ago, we were in NYC with our son Wes Durkin, who was undergoing chemotherapy at Memorial Sloan Kettering in preparation for a bone marrow transplant to treat Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Meanwhile in Chicago, dozens of our friends and family were participating in Cycle for Survival to raise funds for rare cancer research in Wes's name.
Fast forward to today, our son Wes is a happy, healthy boy and is in remission. However, we recognize that that could change, and that many others aren't as lucky.
On February 9th, we will be participating in Cycle for Survival for the 7th consecutive year to support this cause that is so close to our hearts.
Unfortunately, rare cancers aren’t rare at all. In fact, half of people with cancer are fighting “rare” cancers. These include leukemia, lymphoma, brain, pancreatic, ovarian, and all pediatric cancers. Even though they account for half of all cancer diagnoses when combined, research on rare cancers is drastically underfunded.
Cycle for Survival aims to change this by raising funds for rare cancer research. 100% of every dollar raised funds innovative studies and clinical trials at MSK that are accelerating progress in the fight against rare cancers.
Please support team #WesDurkinStrong and help us fight rare cancers.
Clear eyes, full hearts, can’t lose!
