Nicholas Leyden-Morffi
I’m running my first marathon this October with Fred’s Team, the official running program of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK). I felt inspired to do this in honor of my mom who has not only beaten ovarian cancer twice, but is also now fighting a battle with breast cancer. Fortunately, her cancer was caught early this time, and her spirits are high thanks in part to her surgeon at MSK. Remarkably, my mom will also be running this marathon with me and three of her closest friends. Her determination to continue training throughout her surgery and radiation treatments is a testament to her incredible strength and resilience.
100% OF YOUR DONATION SUPPORTS RESEARCH
Named in honor of New York City Marathon co-founder and MSK patient Fred Lebow, Fred’s Team brings together passionate runners and supporters to make strides against cancer. Since 1995, Fred’s Team participants have raised over $110 million. 100% of funds raised go directly into MSK labs, where doctors and scientists have expertise in more than 400 types of cancer and work every day to find new cures. My teammates and I are running to raise funding specifically for the Office of Health Equity at MSK. This cause is deeply important to all of us. We are incredibly fortunate that my mom has access to the hight quality care, but we recognize that not all cancer patients have this privilege. Supporting health equity in cancer care is not just an act of charity; it is a crucial step toward building a just, compassionate and efficient healthcare system.
